Pink and Green screen & 3D content on a 2D screen

Writing by jamieg on Thursday, 3 of December , 2009 at 7:51 am

In this video I discuss the Pink and Green colours on screen and why some times we get them by mistake when going into a show.  This is the result of 3D content mixed into a 2D show.

From here we discuss how we can display content supplied in 3D, and make it work on a 2D screen.

3D Windows and Masking for 3D in Cinemas

Writing by jamieg on Tuesday, 11 of August , 2009 at 9:03 pm

In this video I describe a new 3D presentation method in which you do not mask out all the unused area.  This area is used to enhance the 3D effect. I then show the Video from Walt Disney which shows a new SCOPE on FLAT 3 effect.  Finally I  describe a major problem with the use of this technique.

The RealD-XL 3D system. Better, brighter 3D.

Writing by jamieg on Monday, 6 of July , 2009 at 9:56 pm

In this video I take a look at the RealD-XL 3D attachment for DCI-cinema digital projectors. I look at how the new XL product, an evolution of the Z-Screen system, can re-use the light discarded by the z-screen and effectively double the efficiency of the original Z-Screen system.

RealD is dominant in the 3D market.  The XL, with its supiriour light output, is likely to keep them their as it allows the use of mid-sized projectors (Cheaper cost/running) then 3D systems comeing before the XL.

Showest – DTS – MasterImage 3D

Writing by jamieg on Monday, 4 of May , 2009 at 12:10 am

Sperling from DTS shows us the MasterImage 3D system. This system uses polarising filters by using a spinning wheel in front of the DCI projector lens.  It can be moved from projector to projector.  It requires a silver screen like all Polarising 3D system.  It also  makes use of the inexpensive/disposable 3D glasses.

I discuss the need for a silver screen and do a demonstration of why you need one.

3D cinema brief overview and demo of XpanD 3D system

Writing by jamieg on Sunday, 1 of February , 2009 at 10:17 am

Here I do a brief description of some of the 3D systems available in Cinemas today.  I also show the Xpand3D LCD system in action.  Note: the LCD type system I show in this video is commonly used by IMAX 3D systems and required active glasses that have a battery and LCD shutters over each eye.  These shutters change as a Infra Red pulse light, invisible to the eye, is flashed into the theatre and picked up by a sensor on the glasses.  This is the most portable of the 3D systems available in my experience.

I will do a in depth version of the 3D at a later podcast.
